AtScale Raises $7M in Series A Funding

AtScale, Inc., a San Mateo, California-based platform that allows business users to do BI on Hadoop, raised $7M in Series A funding.

The round was led by UMC Capital with participation from AME Ventures, Storm Ventures and XSeed Capital. Amr Awadallah, Founder and CTO at Cloudera invested in this round as well while Michael Franklin, the Director of the Berkeley AMPLab, the group that spun out Databricks and created Apache Spark, is a company advisor.

The company intends to use the funds to continue to advance the platform and expand operations.

Led by Dave Mariani, CEO and founder, AtScale came out of stealth mode a few months ago to makes BI work on Hadoop by allowing business users to get interactive and multi-dimensional analysis capabilities, using the tools they already know including Microsoft Excel, Tableau Software and QlikView.
