PlateJoy Raises $1.7M in Seed Funding

platejoyPlateJoy, a San Francisco, CA-based meal-kit delivery startup, raised $1.7m in seed funding.

Backers included Foundation Capital, Sherpa Ventures, HealthBox, 500 Startups, VaynerRSE, Bassett Investments, Gotham Gal Ventures’ Joanne Wilson and Jared Leto.

The company intends to use the funds to continue to develop its technology and hire additional developers.

Founded by Christina Bognet, PlateJoy leverages technology to personalize meal planning, grocery shopping, and recipe creation. Users select breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack and dessert choices for the week and online grocer partners (including Whole Foods and Peapod) deliver the necessary ingredients to prepare these meals to the customer’s home.
PlateJoy sends recipe infographics with visual instructions for preparing each meal while its backend algorithms minimize food waste.
