Hungryroot Raises $2M in Funding

HungryrootHungryroot, a NYC-based provider of fresh vegetable-based meals, raised $2m in funding.

Backers included Lerer Hippeau Ventures, Crosslink Capital, Brooklyn Bridge Ventures and KarpReilly.

Led by founder and CEO Ben McKean, Hungryroot is a brand that delivers fresh vegetable-based meals direct to consumer at www.hungryroot.com. The company aims to define a new food category in which vegetables are the main ingredients of the plate with proteins playing a supporting role.
It has developed six (ready-to-cook) meals comprised of 100% organic, vegetable noodles and natural sauces, toppings and optional pre-roasted proteins.
Each meal is gluten-free, non-GMO and under 500 calories.

The company intends to use the funds to expand upon its six current meals and to offer its products nationally by the third quarter of this year. Products are currently available for delivery in 23 states and the District of Columbia.

It is hiring.
