HP Acquires ConteXtream

conteXtream.logoHP acquired ConteXtream, a Mountain View, CA-based network virtualization company.

The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Co-founded by Nachman Shelef and Sharon Barkai, ConteXtream offers solutions that allow carriers to deliver network capacity and functions in the same way cloud providers deliver applications effectively utilizing standard compute and storage. Deployed by Tier-1 operators, the company’s Carrier-SDN dynamically connects subscribers to services and enables carriers to leverage standard server hardware and hypervisors to virtualize functions and services, while replacing costly purpose-built proprietary systems.

With the acquisition, ConteXtream’s open SDN controller platform will complements HP’s NFV expertise and telecommunications and IT experience.

The company was backed by investors including Benhamou Global Ventures, Gemini Israel Funds, Norwest Venture Partners and Sofinnova Ventures as well as strategic investors including Comcast Ventures and Verizon Ventures.
