Virtuix, the Houston, Texas-basedĀ developer of the Omni virtual reality treadmill, completed a $2.7m funding round.
Backers included Radical Investments, Scout Ventures, Scentan Ventures, Western Technology Investment, Tekton Ventures, 2020 Ventures, and private investors.
The company intends to use the funds to grow operations, and accelerate its research and development efforts.
Led by CEO Jan Goetgeluk, Virtuix is developing a patent-pending, omni-directional treadmill that enables the user to walk, run, and jump within a 360-degree virtual environment, creating a full virtual reality experience.
The final Omni will be revealed at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show in January 2015.
Along with the round, Virtuix added two advisors: Kai Huang, the co-founder of Red Octane, the developer of Guitar Hero, and Mike Griffith, the former CEO of Activision Publishing and current Vice Chairman at Activision.
