Uniplaces, a UK-based student accommodation website, raised £2.2m in funding.
The round was led by Octopus Investments with participation from Shilling Capital Partners, Alex Chesterman (founder of Zoopla and LoveFiLM) and Rob McClatchey (former Chairman of University Partnerships Program Ltd and Managing Director of Barclays Capital), who is joining Uniplaces’ board as a non-executive director.
The company, which had raised over £700k in November 2013 (read here), intends to use the funds to expand in key student cities in France, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands, grow further within its existing markets in Portugal, Spain and the UK, and launch in Birmingham and Manchester by the end of 2014.
Launched in 2013 by Ben Grech, CEO, Uniplaces provides a platform for both international and domestic students to book and landlords to rent their accommodation online.
The Uniplaces team verify every student home on the website.
