NBD Nanotechnologies, Inc., a Boston, MA-based developer of biomimetic inspired functional and durable surface modifying coatings and additives, secured $5.2M in Series A funding.
The round was led by Phoenix Venture Partners (PVP), with participation from Supply Chain Ventures and previous angels. In conjunction with the funding, Dr. John Chen of Phoenix Venture Partners and fellow partner Dr. Nobi Kambe will both be joining NBD Nanotechnologies’ Board of Directors.
The company intends to use the funds to advance its platform technologies, product development in various industrial and consumer markets.
Led by Co-founder & CEO Miguel Galvez, NBD Nano is a functional coatings and additives company specializing in surface wettability. It has the ability to make highly functional and durable materials that are omniphobic (hydrophobic, oleophobic) and hydrophilic. Example applications include but are not limited to coatings for industrial steam condensers; electronic devices; industrial protective paints & fog harvesting.
The company has also received grant supports from federal agencies such as the National Science Foundation and USDA.
