ROLI Raises £7.6M in Series A Funding

Seaboard-GRAND-LFE-StandingROLI, a Dalston, London, UK-based music hardware company, raised $12.8m (£7.6m) in Series A funding.

The round was led by Balderton Capital alongside FirstMark Capital as well as strategic investor Universal Music. In conjunction with the funding, Daniel Waterhouse from Balderton and Amish Jani from FirstMark joined ROLI’s board of directors.

The company intends to use the funds to to scale production capacity, build the team, accelerate product roadmap (speeding development of core platform products like its sound engine Equator) and expand globally.

Founded in 2009 by CEO Roland Lamb, ROLI provides the Seaboard GRAND, which reimagines the piano keyboard as a soft, continuous surface. With its polyphonic pitch bend, vibrato and per-note dynamic features, it combines a traditional instrument with digital technology.

The Seabord GRAND has had orders from 34 countries and is now shipping and available for sale at www.roli.com/seaboard

The company currently employs 33 people.
