Hortau, a San Luis Obispo, California-based provider of wireless, web-based irrigation management solutions, raised $3.5m in funding.
Existing backer Avrio Capital provided the funding, which followed a $3m investment closed in January 2013 (read here).
The company intends to use the funds to grow its technical support and sales team to expand throughout North America.
Founded in 2002 by Dr. Jean Caron, agronomist, Ph.D in Soil Physics, and CEO Jocelyn Boudreau, agricultural engineer, M.Sc. in Soil Physics, Hortau provides an irrigation management system, combined with software for both desktop and mobile devices, to allow growers to monitor how their strawberry, almond, grape, cranberries and other crops are faring in real time. The company’s solution helps them detect plant stress, ensuring optimal crop growth while reducing water and energy use as well as eliminate environmental impacts of crop production.
Hortau also has Canada headquarters in Quebec.
