Vend Raises $20M

vend-logo-green-mediumVend, an Auckland, New Zealand- and San Francisco, CA-based provider of online point-of-sale (POS) software, raised an additional US$20m (NZ $25 million) of new capital.

The round was co-led by Peter Thiel of Valar Ventures (US) and Melbourne, Australia-based Square Peg Capital.

The company intends to use the funds to expand its presence in the North American market through new partnerships (which currently include PayPal, Xero, Stitchlabs, Swarm and SelfPay), resellers, staff and customers across the continent.

Launched in late 2010, Vend provides cloud-based point-of-sale software to enable retailers to process sales, track inventory and manage customers. It is an HTML5 retail POS that works on any device or platform, including iPads and existing POS hardware. Vend currently powers over 10,000 stores in more than 100 countries.

The company has also recently opened a new North American support office in Toronto.
