In a blog post (read here), Google (nasdaq: GOOG) launched Google Capital, a growth equity fund focused on backing in growth phase companies.
According to reports, the fund has $300m to invest.
Led by partners David Lawee, Scott Tierney and Gene Frantz, Google Capital backs companies “that have already built a solid foundation and are really ready to expand their business in big ways“.
While Google Ventures focuses mainly on early-stage investments, the initiative focuses on businesses with new technologies and proven track records in their fields.
Investments already include SurveyMonkey, Lending Club and Renaissance Learning.
