MapBox Raises $10M in Series A Funding

MapBox, a Washington, DC and San Francisco, CA-based provider of a mapping platform based on open data sources for web and mobile application developers, raised $10m in Series A funding.

The round was led by Foundry Group.

The company intends to use the funds to build out engineering teams (read here) and increase partnerships with other data providers.

Founded in 2010 by Eric Gundersen, CEO, MapBox provides tools to create and add interactive and personalized maps to web and mobile sites. It has over 2,500 paying subscribers including Foursquare, NPR, Evernote, USA Today, The Financial Times, Github, Hipmunk, and Greenpeace.
The company currently employs 35 people.
