Looker Data Sciences, Inc., a Santa Cruz, CA-based Business Intelligence software company, raised $16m in venture funding.
The round was led by Redpoint Ventures, with participation from First Round Capital and existing investors. In conjunction with the funding, Tomasz Tunguz, a principal with Redpoint Ventures, joined the company’s board of directors.
The company intends to use the funds to build out its sales team, hire additional engineers, and invest in operational infrastructure.
Founded by Lloyd Tabb, Chairman and CTO, and led by Frank Bien, CEO, Looker provides businesses with a browser-based analytics platform for exploring and collaborating with data of any size. It is powered by a comprehensive data modeling layer, LookML. Looker was built to interact with analytic databases such as Pivotal/Greenplum, HP/Vertica, Amazon/Redshift, and others.
