Vivino Raises $10.3M in Series A Funding

Vivino, a Copenhagen, Denmark-based wine app, raised $10.3m (approximately €7.9m) in Series A funding.

The follow-on round was led by Balderton Capital (Roberto Bonanzinga), with participation from existing investors Skype founder and entrepreneur Janus Friis, SEED Capital Partners and Creandum.

The company intends to use the funds for product and business development and to market Vivino throughout Europe and North and South America.

Founded in 2009 by CEO Heini Zachariassen, Vivino is a mobile app for wine lovers to discover, rate and share wines tasted. It allows users to take photos of wine labels using the mobile app. Then the images are then matched against a database of 1.3m wines to return the respective wine’s producer, brand, name, varietals and vintage.
The free Vivino app is available on iPhone/iPad, Android and BlackBerry (BB10) platforms.
