According to a filing with the S.E.C. (read here), Formation|8, a Palo Alto, CA-based venture capital firm with a presence in Asia, raised $440m for its first fund.
Formation 8 backs early growth smart enterprise and energy technology companies (read here what they mean) by leveraging its market knowledge, deployment expertise, sales channels, and relationships needed to expand into Asia.
Led by Managing Partner Joe Lonsdale, Brian Bonwoong Koo, Jim Kim, James Zhang, and Tom Baruch, the firm has local teams in Korea, China and Singapore.
