AgBiome Secures $14.5M in Series A Financing

AgBiome LLC, a Research Triangle Park, NC-based developer of novel agricultural products to improve crop productivity, secured $14.5m in Series A financing.

The round was led by Polaris Partners, with participation from ARCH Venture Partners, Harris & Harris Group, Innotech Advisers, and additional strategic investors.

The company intends to use the capital to further advance its research and development programs, and launch its first products.

Founded by Jeff Dangl, John N. Couch and Paul Schulze-Lefert and led by co-CEOs Scott Uknes and Eric Ward, and CSO Dan Tomso, AgBiome is identifying novel microbes useful for boosting productivity of crop plants, as well as new useful genes from those microbes.
The company’s first product is a biological that controls the predominant soil-borne diseases of greenhouse and major row crops. It is also applying genomics and screening technologies to identify plant-associated microbes that enhance plant health, pest resistance and yield.
