Oxford Photovoltaics Closes £2M Funding

Oxford Photovoltaics Limited, an Oxford, UK-based provider of solid-state dye sensitized solar cells for the Building Integrated Photovoltaic sector, closed a £2m (approximately $3.1m) funding round.

The round was led by MTI Partners, through its UMIP Premier Fund (UPF), with participation from the University of Oxford and a number of private investors.

The company intends to use the capital to build on technical and commercial teams and construct its own product development and test facilities at the Begbroke Science Park near Oxford.

Led by Kevin Arthur, CEO, OPV commercializes solid-state dye sensitized solar cells, which can be produced from nontoxic and non-corrosive materials and be scaled to any volume. They can be printed directly onto glass in a range of colours, making them suited to use in glazing panels and facades.

The company is an Oxford University spin-out.
