Urban Compass Raises $8M in Funding

Urban Compass, a New York-based startup that is building a hyper-local knowledge and information platform, recently raised $8m in funding.

Backers included Goldman Sachs, Founders Fund, Thrive Capital, Kenneth Chenault, and Cyrus Massoumi, among others.

The company is using the funds to hire engineers (http://www.urbancompass.com/jobs.html) to continue to build the platform.

Founded by Ori Allon and Robert Reffkin and still in stealth mode, Urban Compass is developing a human powered local knowledge and information database that – according to their site – is designed to help people make their most important personal decisions. Other founding team members are Mike Weiss, Ugo Di Girolamo, Paul Groudas, Denis Tolkachev, and Alexandre Petcherski.
