SolarPrint Raises €1M in Funding

SolarPrint Limited, a Dublin, Ireland-based developer of high performance indoor energy harvesting technology, has raised €1m in funding.

The round was led by Kernel Capital, which committed €500k through the Bank of Ireland Seed and Early Stage Equity Fund, with participation from  private investors.

Founded in 2008 by Dr. Mazhar Bari, Andre Fernon and Roy Horgan, and led by Rory Timlin, General Manager, SolarPrint is developing Dye Sensitised Solar Cells (DSSC), a printable photovoltaic technology which converts light from any source into energy and provides an autonomous power source for intelligent wireless devices.

The company, which is supported by Enterprise Ireland, firstly targets wireless devices for building energy management. Other applications include electronic shelf displays, building controls, medical sensors and industrial sensors. It currently partners with Analog Devices, Gas Sensing Solutions and EnOcean.

SolarPrint has 17 full time employees in a pilot production facility in Sandyford, Dublin.
