Playrific Closes $1.7M Equity Funding

Playrific, a Boston, MA-based digital media aggregation service for children, has closed a $1.7m equity funding.

The round was lead by Golden Seeds, with participation from Launchpad Venture Group, Walnut Ventures, Northeast Angels and Maine Angels.

The company, which has now raised a total of $2.8m, intends to use the capital to expand its sales, marketing and product development efforts, to accelerate its partnership program, building relationships with tablet manufacturers and brands.

Led by Beth Marcus, CEO, Playrific provides a service that allows children to fely explore a broad range of parent-and-educator-approved digital content including videos, online games, books, songs, drawing, coloring apps, all on their own. The company’s team of educators, experts and algorithms find and curate content from across the web to match each child’s interests.
The free Playrific web app can be accessed from any web-enabled device. The company also offers an iOS app via the App Store, and expects to release its Android app commercially soon.

In addition to the funding, Pat Feely, a veteran of the toy and video game industry, and Angelique LeDoux, Managing Director at Golden Seeds, have joined the company’s board of directors.
