David McClure‘s 500 Startups is raising a $5m Indian fund.
According to a filing with the SEC (read here), the investment vehicle is called 500 StartupWallah and has not had any close yet.
Located in Mountain View, CA, 500 Startups provides early-stage companies with up to $250K in funding, a startup accelerator program with experienced mentors around the world, a creative work space and events such as SmashSummit, UnSexy, and GeeksOnaPlane.
Areas of interest include financial services & e-commerce, search/social/mobile platforms, personal & business productivity, education & language, family & healthcare and web infrastructure.
