TuneIn Raises $16M in Funding


TuneIn, a Palo Alto, CA-based startup that operates a service for listening to music, sports and news streams from around the world, has raised $16m in funding.

The round was led by General Catalyst Partners, with participation from Jafco Ventures, Google Ventures and existing business partner Sequoia Capital.

The company intends to use the capital to funding to scale its technical and business operations worldwide.

Led by CEO John Donham, TuneIn allows people to listen to the world’s music, sports, talk and news from over 70,000 AM, FM, HD and Internet radio stations and two million on-demand programs. It has reached 40m monthly active listeners.
During 2012, the company has formed alliances with major broadcasters, such as CBS Radio Network, NPR and Entercom, and aligned with podcasters including Adam Carolla, sports organizations such as the New England Patriots, and live music festivals like Outside Lands.
