Goko Raises $8M in Series A Funding

Goko, a Redwood City, CA-based new HTML5 games company, has raised $8m in Series A funding.

Backers include Redpoint Ventures and Alsop Louie Partners.

Founded by Kevin Binkley and CEO Ted Griggs, just launched Goko offers a platform for game developers to create, distribute and monetize HTML5 social games across iOS, Android, Facebook, Google+ and Windows 8 and the web (developer.goko.com).
It is also releasing cross-platform social games, including the first multiplayer version of Dominion, and Catan World, a new MMO based on Settlers of Catan, which both are playable across Facebook, Google+ and Goko.com, and will be available as tablet-ready games on Google Play and the Apple App Store. Also live today at Goko.com are:
– Forbidden City, a tile-placing digital game designed by Reiner Knizia;
– War Factory, a puzzle and war strategy mashup; and
– All the King’s Men, a new tower defense game.
The company has acquired the rights for 150 games, licenses from Mayfair Games, Rio Grande Games, Reiner Knizia, etc.
