Kinvey, a Boston, MA-based startup that provides Backend as a Service (BaaS) platform, has closed $5m in a Series A financing.
The round was led by Avalon Ventures, with participation from Atlas Venture.
The company intends to use the funding to grow its team in Cambridge, build more service links to cloud services and legacy backends, and grow customer adoption through its public and private cloud deployments.
Led by Sravish Sridhar, Founder and CEO, Kinvey provides a Backend-as-a-Service platform that makes it easy for developers to setup and operate a cloud backend for their mobile, tablet and web apps. Its BaaS allows developers to get a full-featured data store, along with mobile specific features like location, social, and push, and connectivity to any third-party cloud service or legacy backend. All of these backend features are consumed by iOS, Android, JavaScript, and Node.js libraries so that them don’t have to write any backend code.
