Triposo Adds Crunchfund

Richard Osinga of Triposo, the distributed start up that builds free mobile interactive travel guides, has said to me that Crunchfund made an investment in the company.

Launched in May 2011 by Jon Tirsen and Douwe Osinga, two ex-Googlers, Triposo uses algorithms to build a free travel guide that covers over 8,000 destinations with in depth and up to date information. The company, whose applications have been downloaded over 1,5 million times, iOS and Android combined, has now launched a new app with a travel guide that actively suggests travelers where to go next, based on location, the time of day, the weather and opening hours to present some different options. It also registers the direction users are looking in, so when they are going in the direction of an interesting place it will highlight that place.

The company is also backed by InterWest, Chris Sacca, and Lars Rasmussen, among others (read here).
