Mob Science Raises $1M in Seed Funding

Mob Science, a Carlsbad, CA-based social games developer, has raised $1m in seed funding.

Backers include Joyent CEO David Young, GameSpy Industries founder Mark Surfas, Joyent co-founder and CTO Jason Hoffman, Joyent Executive Vice President of Corporate Development Brian Brown, and Joyent General Manager, Joyent Cloud, Steve Tuck.

Led by founder and CEO Michael Witz, Mob Science operates Facebook applications including inFamous Anarchy, Coffee Bar, Snowball Fight, Willy’s Sweet Shop and others. Its next title, a mid-core Role Playing Game in the fantasy genre, will be among the first third-party apps published on the Zynga Platform.

As an early Zynga Platform partner, Mob Science will be able to promote its new game to the 240 million monthly active users who currently play Zynga games.
Zynga will also grant the company access to channels and features that increase social engagement, analytics that measure and drive social, and back end technology that ensures scalability and availability.

In conjunction with the funding, David Young has joined Mob Science’s Board of Directors.
