Dell Inc. (NASDAQ: DELL) has acquired backup software technology company AppAssure for an undisclosed amount.
Founded in 2006 and based in Reston, Va., AppAssure provides application protection solutions for virtual, physical and cloud infrastructures.
The acquisition is designed to further extends Dell’s comprehensive storage and software strategy after that the company has taken significant steps over the past three years to expand its storage portfolio to offer customers a complete range of storage products and solutions. It plans to keep AppAssure’s approximately 230 employees (who have been led by president and CEO Najaf Husain) and continue to invest in additional engineering and sales capability to grow this business.
Built for complex virtualized, physical, and cloud environments, AppAssure offers a unified backup, archive and replication solution that guarantees near-instant data and application recovery from customers’ servers to their data center and their cloud.
Bain Capital Ventures is the lead institutional investor in the company; the remainder of the equity is employee-owned.
