Heliospectra Raises SEK30M

Heliospectra, a Göteborg Sweden-based developer of an intelligent lighting system for greenhouses, has raised SEK30m in funding.

Backers include Industrifonden, which committed SEK10m, Midroc New Technology, and Heliospectra’s current owners and chairman.

The company intends to use the funds to launch its solution in the European market.

Heliospectra has developed an intelligent High Brightness Light Emitting Diode “HB-LED” based lighting system for greenhouses that allows growers to adjust how their plants grow and to control quality.
This includes the thickness of the stem and leaf, the plant’s size and tolerance, and how quickly it grows.

Founded in 2006 and led by CEO Staffan Hillberg, and Director of Research Tessa Pocock, Ph.D., Heliospectra originated from research in plant biology. The system has been developed in close collaboration with the company’s first customer, Swedeponic, which has tested and verified the system in different stages.
Heliospectra is in the process of moving from Borås to Göteborg to share offices with the Swedish Institute for Food and Biotechnology (SIK), which promotes the development of the food industry.
