JOYUS Raises $7.9M in First Funding

JOYUS, a Palo Alto, CA-based video sales platform, has closed a $7.9m first round of funding.

The round was led by Accel Partners and Harrison Metal, with participation from angel investors Joel Hyatt, CEO and Co-Founder of CurrentTV, and Venky Harinarayan and Anand Rajaraman, SVPs of Global Ecommerce at Walmart.

Founded in January 2011 by Sukhinder Singh Cassidy, former Google executive, JOYUS has launched in public beta its video sales platform, which is designed to help brands engage with customers and sell products online. Each week the company’s curators share apparel, beauty and lifestyle items. Products are available for sale for a limited time through the platform.

The management team of the company also includes:
– Co-Founder and VP of Product Diana Williams, formerly Director of Product Management (Fashion) at eBay;
– Chief Curator Gina Pell, Founder and former Content Chief at Splendora, and
– CTO and VP of Engineering Sin Mei Tsai, formerly at Efficient Frontier and SendMe Mobile.

In conjunction with the funding, Accel’s Theresia Gouw Ranzetta and Harrison Metal’s Michael Dearing will join JOYUS’ board of directors.
