Hopper Raises $8M in Funding

Hopper, a Boston, MA-based company that is developing a website for consumer travel discovery, has raised $8M in new funding.

Investors include Atlas Venture and Brightspark Ventures.

Founded in 2007 by a team of former Expedia employees and led by CEO Frederic Lalonde, Hopper is developing a search engine-powered website that allows users to discover destinations and products using only keywords. According to a written statement, the company is currently using Machine Learning, NoSQL databases and Big Data processing to transform raw web pages into structured and organized information.

Hopper, which also raised $2m in 2008, plans to double its engineering team over the next year (http://www.hopper.travel/jobs.html).

In conjunction with the funding, Jeff Fagnan, partner at Atlas Venture, will join the company’s board of directors.
