Flickme, a San Mateo, CA-based a newly formed streaming movie and social networking service, recently received funding from Sequoia Capital.
Launched today with initial license agreements from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and Warner Bros. Digital Distribution, Flickme allows users to rent or buy new and popular titles movies. Members can also log in with their Facebook accounts, exchange recommendations with friends, earn badges, and share discounts. The service offers limited time, shareable discounts on selection of catalog titles. After buying or renting a movie, consumers can share a discount on that same title with up to 10 friends via Facebook or Twitter.
About one third of the movies available on flickme have the shareable discount feature.
The company, which was founded in 2011 by CEO Mitch Galbraith and Mark Smallcombe, is working to add new features and movies over the coming months.
