Birchbox, Inc., a New York City-based beauty site that allows members to sample and buy high-end beauty products, has closed a $10.5m Series A funding.
The round was led by Accel Partners, with participation from seed investor First Round Capital and Harrison Metal, Forerunner Ventures, Lerer Ventures, Sam Lessin, Consigliere, Gary Vaynerchuck (VaynerMedia), Dave Morin (Path), Stanford University Endowment and Andy Dunn (Bonobos).
The company intends to use the funds to grow the business and expand its offerings.
Created by co-founders Hayley Barna and Katia Beauchamp and launched in September 2010, Birchbox.com sends a monthly box containing curated samples from brands such as Kiehl’s, NARS, Deborah Lippmann and Stila, to members. A web site, curated by an internal editorial team, gives tips and insights about the products.
