card.io, a San Francisco, CA-based start-up that develops a software that allows consumers to use their smartphone camera to pay with a credit card, closed a $1m seed round of funding.
Investor include Michael Dearing of Harrison Metal, Jeff Clavier and Charles Hudson of SoftTech VC, Manu Kumar of K9 Ventures, Alok Bhanot (former VP, Risk Technology at PayPal), and Omar Hamoui (CEO/founder of AdMob).
Founded by former AdMob employees Mike Mettler and Josh Bleecher Snyder, Card.io’s software-only service allows developers to build mobile checkout into their app turning smartphones with a camera into a cash register.
The company has also launched a private beta program for iOS developers in e-commerce, local, ticketing, travel, and daily deal apps.
card.io is currently working with MogoTix for event tickets, TaskRabbit for local services, and SamaSource for donations.
