Funzio, a San Francisco, CA-based game developer, has raised $20m in Series A venture capital funding.
The round was led by IDG Ventures (U.S.), and IDG Capital Partners (China), with partipation from Playdom Co-Founder Rick Thompson, who will join the company’s board as Chairman.
Funzio intends to use the capital to triple its team this year (the company has immediate openings for engineering, art and product positions) and scale its business to continue to create free-to-play action games for Facebook and mobile devices.
Its first title, Crime City, was launched on Facebook in September 2010, and will be available on mobile later this year.
The company is led by Co-Founder and CEO Ken Chiu, who is the entrepreneur behind Storm8.
