eCAPITAL Closes €50M Cleantech Fund

The eCAPITAL entrepreneurial Partners AG, a Muenster, Germany-based venture capital firm, closed a €50m cleantech fund.
Supporters include Paul Grunow, co-founder of Solon AG and Q.Cells AG, insurance company LVM Versicherungen (with two funds) and other German family offices and institutional investors.
The fund already invested in five companies including:
– Novaled, a provider of doping materials for OLED technology,
– eZelleron, developer and producer of SOFC fuel cells,
– Heliatek, a producer of novel organic solar cells,
– Feranova, a developer and builder of large scale solar thermal power plants using its patented CSP-mirrors.
The eCAPITAL team aims to make 15 investments in Cleantech sectors such as water, energy, new materials and transport during the investment period. The fund focuses on investing in later and early stage companies, with an average volume of € 0.5m – € 2.5m, mainly in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
