Illume Software Secures $2.4m in Funding

Illume Software, a Needham, MA-based provider of mobile software solutions and developer of the popular iZUP mobile application for the management of distracted driving, has secured $2.4m in new funding.
Investors include the Massachusetts Technology Development Corp. (MTDC) and prominent individual backers. This financing has brought the total amount raised by the company to date to $6.5m.
Illume Software intends to use the new funds to ramp up sales and development of iZUP to the corporate and consumer markets, as well as support general corporate activities.
In conjunction with the financing, Walter (Jerry) Bird of the MTDC has joined Illume’s Board of Directors.
Founded in 2009, and led by CEO Dan Ross, the company has developed the iZUP application, which uses GPS technology and other sensors to temporarily disable communications functions on mobile devices while driving, keeping drivers’ attention on the road, and not their cell phones.
The app is currently available on a wide variety of Blackberry, Windows Mobile, and Android handsets.
