equipio.com, a UK-based company that operates a social shopping site for sportswear, raised £100k in its first round of funding from a syndicate of London Business Angels.
The company intends to use the funds to develop the site as well as build traffic and engagement through a number of sports brand content initiatives.
Founded by ex Nike business strategist Charlie Greenwood and launched in July 2010, Equipio.com (the trading brand of Sports Social Networks Limited) combines content from a range of sources (e.g. videos, product reviews, Twitter feeds, etc.,) with a community of athletes in order to help them find the best sports gear and connect with brands, organisations and other consumers.
Commenting on the funding, Anthony Clarke, Managing Director of the LBA, said: “We are very excited by the growth potential of this early stage business equipio.com – we look forward to helping them in raising development capital in future fundraising rounds”.
