Baring Private Equity Asia Closes Fifth Fund at US$2.46BN

Baring Private Equity Asia closed its fifth fund with US$2.46bn in investor commitments.
The Baring Asia Private Equity Fund V, L.P. was oversubscribed with more than US$1bn in excess demand and over 30 new institutional investors. Approximately 47% of the investor commitments came from North America, 28% from Asia, and 25% from the Middle East and Europe.
Fund V will focus on growing mid-sized businesses requiring capital for expansion, recapitalization or acquisitions. It will invest in companies in a broad range of sectors with operations in Greater China, India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea or South East Asia.
Led by Hong Kong based Founding Partner and CEO Jean Eric Salata, Baring Private Equity Asia is today one of the largest private equity firms in Asia with $5 bn under management. The firm has been investing in Asia since its formation in 1997 and has 67 employees located in offices in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Mumbai, Singapore and Tokyo.
