Personal, a Washington, D.C.-based online and mobile service that allows individuals to take control of their digital data, has closed a $7.6m Series A financing round.
The investment was co-led by Grotech Ventures and Revolution LLC, with participation from Allen & Company and Eric Semler of TCS Capital Management.
The company intends to use the funding to expand beta testing and introduce the service to consumers in early 2011. The service is currently available by invitation-only.
Founded in 2009, Personal is designed to allow users to own, share and manage their digital information. The idea of the founders, who include Shane Green, President and CEO, Edin Saracevic, Executive VP, Technology & Development, Tarik Kurspahic, CTO, and Jennifer O’Keefe, Vice President, Product Management, is that people – not companies – should have the right to take charge of and be rewarded from their own information.
