GroupMe, a New York-based developer of a mobile free text app that enables users to organize and communicate real-life friends, closed a $10.6m Series B round of financing.
Investors include Khosla Ventures, General Catalyst, First Round Capital, and existing supporters SV Angel, Lerer Ventures, and betaworks.
GroupMe, which was founded last summer by Jared Hecht and Steve Martocci, intends to use the funds to focus on its 2011 product roadmap and hire new technical professionals.
In conjunction with the funding, David Weiden of Khosla Ventures and Ken Lerer of Lerer Ventures will join Hecht and Martocci on the company’s board.
The app is available for iPhone and Android.
