Tumblr, a New York-based light blogging platform, has raised $30m in venture capital funding, according to a SEC regulatory filing.
The round was led by Sequoia Capital, with participation from Spark Capital and Union Square Ventures.
The funds are being used to re-architect the platform infrastructure. To this end, the company has expanded the engineering team and just moved into a new office. At the beginning of the next year, Tumblr will also open its second datacenter to nearly triple capacity. According to the company, other developments will be announced soon.
Founded in 2007, Tumblr provides users with tools to share post text, photos, quotes, links, music, and videos, from their browser, phone, desktop, email, etc.
