StatusNet Raises Additional Funding

StatusNet Inc., the developer of the open source microblogging server StatusNet™, has raised an additional investment led by New York-based FirstMark Capital.
BOLDstart Ventures, iNovia Capital and Montreal Start Up participated in the funding, as well.
The round brings the total amount raised by the company to date to $2.3m. 
In conjunction with the funding, founder of open source ad platform, OpenX, angel investor and FirstMark Capital venture partner Scott Switzer will join StatusNet’s board.
StatusNet is a popular microblogging solution for large companies who want to encourage secure employee communication and collaboration inside the corporate firewall. The company provides a commercial support subscription for its software, the StatusNet Enterprise Network™, and a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offering, the StatusNet Cloud Service™.
The company’s plug-ins can integrate with other enterprise applications.
Commenting on the funding, Evan Prodromou, Founder and CEO of StatusNet, said: “We’re building an enterprise sales and support team to further push StatusNet software into the Global 1000 market.
“Our investors and partners have deep experience in enterprise and open source software that will help us during our next phase of growth”.
Founded in 2008, the company has offices in Montreal and San Francisco.
