Unity Technologies Buys Artomatix

Unity Technologies, a San Francisco, CA-based creator of a real-time 3D development platform, acquired Artomatix, an Ireland-based software company that uses AI and neural networks to streamline 3D artistic workflows in top studios worldwide.

The amount of the deal was not disclosed.

Under the terms of the deal, Artomatix will join Unity while continuing to operate out of Dublin, Ireland where the team is expected to grow exponentially over the next two years in the areas of research and development.

Founded by Graphics Ph.D, Dr. Eric Risser, and led by Chief Executive Officer, Joe Blake, Artomatix provides ArtEngine, which leverages AI to allow artists to accelerate their creative workflows for material creation, enhancing their ability to achieve their artistic vision and produce photorealistic content. Funded by Enterprise Ireland, NDRC, and other private Irish and UK-based investors. the company has built a talented team, who will grow to over 100 people during the next two years, with a new Unity office in Dublin’s city centre.

Unity provides a platform for real-time 3D (RT3D) development giving users, from emerging creators to global brands, accessible tools to create real-time 3D experiences. The company has a team of 1,000 people working alongside partners such as Google, Facebook, Oculus, Autodesk, and Microsoft.
