RunSafe Security Raises $6.3M in Funding

RunSafe Security, a McLean, VA-based critical infrastructure cybersecurity company, raised $6.3m in series A funding.

The round was led by Alsop Louie Partners, with participation from new investors Working Lab Capital, Inner Loop Capital and Renegade Ventures.

The company, which has raised $8.7m in total funding, intends to use the funds to expand its sales and marketing efforts, as well as broaden and accelerate product development.

Led by Joe Saunders, founder and CEO, RunSafe Security provides Alkemist, which hardens software binaries using runtime application self-protection (RASP) and Moving Target Defense (MTD) methods to reduce risk by precluding exploits from spreading across multiple devices and networks.

Originally born out of a research project for the Advanced Research Projects Agency of the Department of Defense, Alkemist is an automated tool protecting open source, in-house developed code, or third-party binaries, while leaving each system functionally identical, but logically unique. Its security techniques inoculate customers’ systems from an entire class of cyber attacks. Customers integrate the product across build and deploy tools chains without developer friction protecting open source, in house code, and 3rd party binaries.

Customers span the enterprise, suppliers and manufacturers, and national security industries.

The company, which also has an office in Huntsville, Alabama, was a graduate of Virginia Center for Innovative Technology’s Mach37 Cyber Accelerator Fall ’17 cohort.
