Anyscale, a Berkeley, CA-based distributed programming platform company, raised $20.6M in Series A funding.

The round was led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) with participation from NEA, Intel Capital, Amplify Partners, 11.2 Capital, and The House Fund.

The company intends to use the funds to expand its leadership team and amplify its contribution to the open source community.

Founded by Ray creators Robert Nishihara, Philipp Moritz, and Ion Stoica, along with University of California, Berkeley professor Michael I. Jordan, Anyscale leverages Ray (a framework for building and running distributed applications, packaged with RLlib, a scalable reinforcement learning library, and Tune, a scalable hyperparameter tuning library) to enable developers of all skill levels to build applications that run at any scale, from a laptop to a data center.
