Pela Raises $5M in Funding

pelaPela, a Kelowna, BC-based maker of a compostable phone case, closed a $5M round of funding.

The round was led by Marcy Venture Partners with participation from Kensington Capital.

The company intends to use the funds to accelerate expansion of its phone protection products.

Founded in 2011 by environmental consultant Jeremy Lang and led by CEO Matt Bertulli, Pela provides a flagship phone case which completely breaks down into carbon, water, and organic biomass.
Founded of a material called Flaxstic, a blend of plant-based biopolymer mixed with flax shive, an annually renewable waste byproduct of the flax oilseed harvest in Canada, Pela makes cases for the entire line of currently available Apple iPhones as well as Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel Android smartphones.
