Kin Insurance, a Chicago, IL-based home insurance startup, raised $47m in funding.
Backers included:
- Avanta,
- Hudson Structured Capital Management Ltd., doing business as HSCM Bermuda,
- UChicago Startup Investment Program, and
- others.
The company intends to use the funds to launch the Kin Interinsurance Network, a Florida home insurance carrier which is able to quote homeowners insurance for many Florida residents online, over the phone, and via email, and continue to expand across the US.
Launched by financial tech entrepreneurs Sean Harper and Lucas Ward in 2016, Kin Insurance is an insurtech startup and licensed insurance carrier focused on providing home insurance through tech and customer service. By leveraging thousands of publicly available data points, the company can recommend the appropriate coverage for homeowners.
Kin serves catastrophe-prone regions and is committed to helping coastal homeowners most impacted by climate change. It also has offices in Tampa Bay and serves Florida, Texas, Georgia, and Alabama.
