Untether AI Raises $13M in Series A Funding

data centerUntether AI, a Toronto, Canada-based AI chip startup came out of stealth with $13m in Series A funding.

Backers included Intel Capital and other investors.

The company intends to use the funds to continue to expand its development efforts and business reach.

Founded in 2018 by Martin Snelgrove, CEO, and Darrick Wiebe, CTO, and Raymond Chik, Untether AI is developing high-performance AI chips to enable new frontiers in AI applications.
By combining near-memory design with digital processing, the company has developed a new chip architecture for neural net inference that moves data faster by reducing the distance data must travel to the absolute minimum.
Its Kensington architecture gets data to the processors at 2.5 petabits per second, eliminates the cost of using a bus to move data to processors, improving inference efficiency, and enabling larger scale use and broader AI while consuming less resources and energy, and needing much less supporting infrastructure.
