ClearSky Data Raises $20M in Funding

clearskydataClearSky Data, a Boston, MA-based provider of on-demand primary storage with built-in offsite backup and disaster recovery (DR) as a service, raised $20m in funding.

Backers included a technology provider, Pear Tree Partners, L.P., and existing investors General Catalyst, Highland Capital Partners and Polaris Partners.

The company, which has raised $59m to date, intends to use the funds to accelerate customer deployments, sales and go-to-market activities.

Led by co-founder and CEO Ellen Rubin and newly appointed CRO Roger Cummings, ClearSky Data delivers on-demand primary storage with offsite backup and disaster recovery (DR) as a single service. Enterprises pay for their data once and gain access to it where it’s needed – on-premises or in the cloud. IT is empowered to stop doing backup, replication and DR, and to access all data as if it were local, with on-demand scaling and agility.

The company is also expanding its U.S. presence in partnership with Equinix, which manages a global platform of interconnected data centers and business ecosystems.

Customers include Partners HealthCare, Massachusetts General Hospital, Nuance Communications and Unitas Global.
