Benson Hill Biosystems Raises $60M Financing

benson hill biosystemBenson Hill Biosystems, a St. Louis-based crop improvement company leveraging the natural genetic diversity of plants, held the first close of its $60m Series C financing.

The round was led by GV, with participation from new investors Activant Capital and Tao Capital Partners and existing investors Alexandria Venture Investments, Fall Line Capital, iSelect Fund, Lewis & Clark Ventures, Mercury Fund, Prelude Ventures, and S2G Ventures.

The company intends to use the funds to further advance CropOS™ and expand product development capacity to deliver a portfolio of improved crops with and for companies across the food and agriculture value chain.

Led by Matthew Crisp, CEO and co-founder, Benson Hill Biosystems provides a crop design platform that combines machine learning and big data with genome editing and plant biology to accelerate and simplify the product development process of sustainable crops.
